Depth of Field
Part 1.
The three ways to manipulate DOF is using iris, Focal Length, and Camera-to-Object Distance. As the iris shrinks, the middle toy stays the same. As we shrink the lens the toys both farther and closer come closer into focus. When a camera has a shorter focal length it has an expansive Depth of Field. The closer you get to an object to an object, the shallower the depth of field will be. Three ways to have great DOF is to use a small iris, be far away from the object, and having a shallow focal length. Three ways to have a shallow DOF is to have a short camera to object distance, a long focal point, and a large iris opening. The website comes from a school called James Madison University School of Media Arts & Design. |
Shallow Depth of field. This makes that area appear clear and its surroundings appear blurry and washed. This can be created by having a short distance between the camera and desired object, a long focal point, and a large iris opening.
Expansive Depth of Field This is caused by the camera either, a small iris, be far away from the desired objects, or have a shallow focal point, This causes most objects in the picture to appear in focus.
